L’éclipse
In L’Éclipse, I explore how desire, eroticism and sex shape our sense of who we are. I examine the relationship between the identity we present to others and the impulses, emotions and needs we encounter in private. Attraction, vulnerability and bodily experience become ways of recognising ourselves, both alone and in relation to another person.
The work begins with an Olfact. Its animalic composition brings together evocations of human skin and warmth, blood, lipstick, cigarette smoke, broken marble and a street after rain. Through my synesthetic perception, the colour red, the atmosphere of opera and the musical note D also enter this olfactory vocabulary. Around the Olfact, I build a world in which scent develops into space, movement and objects.
I conceive the installation as an enclosed room. Soft red carpet and black leather meet fractured marble; mirrors place the viewer’s reflection within the work. Directed light draws attention to clothing and objects, while a moving…
